December 29, 2022: Digging Out Again

Image
The snow just keeps coming, so Bud had to dig out again to finish the underground work.

December 21, 2022: Drain

Image
With an arctic cold front moving in, Bud, Stein and Nelson installed the first half of the storm drain around the outside of the footings. Slotted plastic pipe is used. The pipe is laid down on fabric which sits on the gravel next to the footings.                                                                                                               The drain pipe goes over the copper water line. Then gravel is poured over the fabric and the pipe. Some of the gravel is frozen. Nelson spreads the gravel over the top of the pipe. Finally, the fabric is closed over the gravel with the pipe inside.  The fabric and gravel should keep out any dirt, with only water infiltrating into the pipe.

After a very snowy hiatus, Stein, Nelson, Bud and Earlen returned to the site to dig out the snow in preparation for putting in the underground drain tiles.

December 6, 2022: Snow Day

No work today -- there are no friends on a powder day.

December 4, 2022: Insulation

Image
As the foundation walls cure (yes, even in cold temperatures), 2" bat insulation is installed on the exterior walls.                                                                            More snow tonight.

December 2, 2022: The Foundation Walls

Image
While your intrepid reporter was out of town for a few days, Steamboat Springs received quite a bit of snow -- and it is still snowing! In the meantime, the foundation walls were poured, and the forms have been removed. The new walls stand as silent sentinels in the snow.
