October 29, 2022: Framing the Footings

Image
Marcello's crew came in on Saturday to lay out the footings.

October 28, 2022: Prepping to Lay the Footings

Image
Bud started to lay down gravel. The surveyor precisely placed nails to mark the correct elevation.                                                                Meanwhile, Marcello's crew brought the lumber with which to construct the forms.

October 27, 2022: More Snow

Image
More snow stymied additional work today. However, the concrete crew was able to drop off a trailer full of lumber with which to begin framing the footings.

October 25, 2022: Done Digging (Mostly)

An extra load of gravel to line the perimeter ...

October 24, 2022: Snow and Mud

Image
Winter arrived abruptly on Sunday morning, and the snow fell off and on all day, culminating in 10" of fresh snow on the mountain by Monday morning, with less down below. All that moisture means mud is in the offing. It looks idyllic, but Bud ordered a load of gravel to keep the trucks from  churning the dirt to a froth. Bud has found a few boulders worth setting aside for later. By the end of the day, there's been real progress.

October 21, 2022: Excavation

Image
First, Brede staked down the soil erosion barriers. Then Bud filled truckload after truckload. By the end of the day, the excavation had made real progress. The trench around the exterior is the depth for the footings.  No need to excavate in the middle; that will be for the slab for the ground floor.

October 20, 2022: Breaking Ground

Image
Stein posted the permit information. Bud laid out the soil erosion barriers. Then he scraped off the topsoil. And started to dig in earnest. The excess overburden is trucked down to the quarry south of town. By the end of the day, the first excavation is well under way.

October 19, 2022: Permit

Image
Approved! So Bud dropped off his Bobcat, and edging to place for run-off barriers.

October 18, 2022: Waiting for the Permit

Image
Bud moved his backhoe onto the site, while awaiting the City's final approval on the permit. As seen from atop the machinery, the lot is staked and ready to go.
