November 21, 2022: Finishing the Foundation Forms

Image
After a fair amount of snow and a quick, bitter cold snap, Marcello's guys came back to finish the forms for the foundation.                                                                                                           Soon it will be time to pour.

November 15, 2022: More Forms for the Foundation

Image
A couple of inches of overnight snow,  but Marcello was able to start mounting the inside frames for the foundation.                                                                                                With the inside frames mounted, the box is formed for the concrete,  with the rebar inside to provide strength. More inside frames to come.

November 14, 2022: Forms for the Foundation

Image
Marcello used the weekend to start setting up the forms for the foundation.                                                                                               First the outside forms are installed,  with new rebar woven together with the vertical rebar that was previously set in the footings. Turnbuckles are adjusted to hold the forms exactly in place until the concrete is poured.

November 8, 2022: Gravel

Image
Bud used the bobcat to put gravel in the trench.  Once in, it was up to Nelson to shovel the gravel all through the trench for an even finish. Ready for the next stage.

November 7, 2022: Mud

Image
A gorgeous day with snow on the mountain. Surveyor Tom Effinger slogged through the mud to set the points for the foundation walls. And Bud had a load of gravel brought in. But the warm temperatures melted the snow down in the valley,  leaving pools of water in the trench.  Stein installed a pump to drain the trench overnight.

November 4, 2022: Pouring the Footings

Image
After a day and night of snowfall, it was time to pour the footings.                                                                           The pumper sets up in the early morning. Once the first cement truck showed up, it is time to get started. While one member of Marcello's crew guides the pumper spout,  another smooths out the pour to form an even top surface to the footing. When the pumper is going full bore, there is a lot of concrete -- enough  to knock the camera sideways! But one truckload is not enough to go around the lot even once. The second truck arrives. The pumper is remote controlled with dual joysticks. As the snow melts in the trench, the concrete pushes it out of the way.                           ...

November 2, 2022: Finishing Framing the Footings

Image
With the extra excavation complete,  Marcello's guys came back to finish the framing for the footings, and installing the rebar.

November 1, 2022: More Digging

Image
Bud brought in the "little digger" to do some more excavating. Before Marcello can finish framing for the footings,  the surveyor  had to return to place the "pins" to allow the framing to be erected at the correct elevation.                              Meanwhile, the electricians did the initial work to hook up temporary power.
